  • Open the MetaTrader platform

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Q1. I downloaded the zip file from the URL you provided, ran the installer but I couldn't see any FX AlgoTrader products displayed in the Navigator window. What's gone wrong?

A1. It is essential that you tell the installer where the root or base Metatrader folder resides on your machine. Once the installer knows the location of your root MT4 folder it will automatically put indicators, expert advisors and libraries in the correct folders. After the installer finishes it will automatically re-load MT4 and a new EURUSD hourly chart will auto load with the appropriate products automatically installed on this chart. If MT4 does not automatically restart when the installer finishes - you have not installed the products in the root MT4 folder so re-run the installer package and ensure the installation path is correct.

Q2. I entered my account number into the external input parameter called 'Ref' but the product said this was invalid. You must have sent me the wrong reference number?

A2. You should be entering the unique reference number which was sent to you in the original installation email. This is normally 2 or 3 digits long. Do not try to enter your MT4 account numbers as this will not work. Please review the installation guide and refer back to the original installation email you were sent.

 

 

Q3. I am at my computer tring to find which folder in my MT4 account to install this in, please help

A3. Please read A1

 

 

Q4. When I loaded the expert advisor/indicator the chart immediately shut down and now I can't find any of the installation files.

A4. Please check to make sure you are licensed to run the FX AlgoTrader software on this particular MT4 account. If you accidentally loaded the software onto an unlicensed MT4 account please contact FX AlgoTrader for further instructions. If you are certain this is a registered account please take a note of your MT4 build number and contact info@fxalgotrader.com

 

Q5. When I load the the FX AlgoTrader product onto an MT4 chart I can see error messages in the 'experts' tab in the terminal window saying "DLL Calls not allowed"

A5. Please refer to the installation guide and ensure you have enabled "Allow DLL calls" for your product(S)

 

Q6. When I load the the FX AlgoTrader product onto an MT4 chart nothing happens - I see no data being displayed. What's going on?

A6. Please refer to the installation guide and ensure you have enabled "Allow DLL calls" and also the 'allow external experts imports'. Also check the experts tab in the terminal window for error messages. If you see "Error 126 - Cannot Call 'Test.dll'" you have installed the program in the wrong folder. Repeat the installation but make sure you install in the ROOT folder. eg "C:/Program Files/Your MT4 Account"


Q7
. My MT4 platform has crashed and every time I relaunch MT4 it crashes again. How can I recover MT4 to a stable state?

A7. This can happen for a variety of reasons but it is normally due to the MT4 build number being out of date compared to the build number the installed product was created on. To recover MT4 and update it to the most up to date version:-

  • Go to your 'profiles' folder (under your root MT4 folder) and delete the following files:-
    • 'lastprofile.ini'
    • the folder named 'default'
  • MT4 will relauch and you should see an empty MT4 environment with no charts loaded.
  • Take a copy of your 'Experts' and 'Indicators' folders (for security purposes)
  • Close MT4
  • Go to your brokers website and download the MT4 client installer (by opening a demo account)
  • Install the updated version of MT4 in the same folder as the old version (it will not overwrite your custom EAs and indicators - if it does you have the copy made in the last step)
  • Start MT4. When it loads you will be prompted to run the 'liveupdate' program. Do this.
  • MT4 will then ask you if you want to 'Update and restart' the application. Click 'Yes'
  • If you are running a live account login using your username and password
  • If you are running a demo account make sure your MT4 account number is the same one registered with FX AlgoTrader before continuing.
  • Repeat the FX AlgoTrader installation process.

Reasonable support requests and email volume.

We will normally reply extremely quickly to any support enquiries but please do not treat this as an invitation to play email 'ping pong'. We expect customers to put some effort into reading the installation and product data sheets.

The screenshot below shows an example of what we would consider to be unacceptable in terms of support expectation. This customer sent 14 emails in one day. All the answers to the questions were in the support documentation.
